Cinemagique is an educational francophone film festival for children which illustrates the important role that arts and culture are now playing in the life of Miami and the exciting potential for the French and Francophone cinema to serve as a catalyst in the resurgent economic revitalization of our town.
Since its inception in 2007, the festival takes place at the Alliance Francaise Miami and is allowing special screenings to take place inside the schools with Q&A in order to diversify its audience and make sure to reach out to many more children.
The themed festival focuses on Francophone culture and provides access for Miami-Dade County school children that are native speakers or enrolled in French language programs. It also markets the screenings to families in the Calle Ocho neighborhood as the festival is hosted by the Alliance Française. Art workshops are open to the public on Saturday after two days of screenings reserved to the public and magnet schools. A question-answer session led by teachers also takes place after each screening for the children. Films are always subtitled in English. 750 children during three days of screenings in French (subtitled in English) attended the last film festival.
Internationally acclaimed animations; documentaries on remarkable ocean and land creatures, from the cuttlefish to the giant Galapagos tortoise; children’s nature books brought to the screen; classic films and winners from the 2009 European children film Festival are among the highlights of Festival’s 2010 film program for young people.
The local school teachers, the French and Canadian Consulates, the Alliance Française and Red Chemistry Inc. are bringing PR and advertisement support to this event.
